Educational program
What’s on in the city?
Would you like to know what’s happening in your town? Join the project What’s on in the city!
Through informal education, the educational program/project What’s on in the city? introduces young audience to current events in museums and galleries in the city of Zagreb. With organized tours of current visual events in cultural institutions, the project complements and expands the youth’s level of education and knowledge regarding visual art; through educational workshops (e.g. discussion groups, talks with artists and curators, artistic workshops) the project contributes to the development of aesthetic characteristics, analytical observation, and of formative and creative thought.
Having noticed the youth’s unadequate inclusion in current cultural/visual events, as well as their ignorance of the locations of the cultural institutions in their city, the Association 90-60-90 and Centre for culture Trešnjevka launched the project What’s on in the city?. With its informal approach, connecting tours of three cultural institutions in a two hours-long walk around the city, the project uses a specific and original way, that is appealing to young audience, to break the fixed perception of exhibitions as being boring and incomprehensible. By approaching new contents, the project shifts the boundaries in observing and assists the young audience in developing their critical thinking and breaking stereotypes. Gradually becoming more familiar with its city, the youth grows conscience of its civic role and of the right to use the public space. Furthermore, using the mentioned institutions, they simultaneously also create the image of their city.
