Two exhibitions will take place simultaneously in the large and small hall of Pogon Jedinstvo. Hana Lukas Midžić will exhibit her works in the upper part of the gallery, and Ivan Midžić in the lower part. The exhibitions are not directly connected by anything other than the fact that the authors are married, hence the title of the exhibition. Both exhibitions are a review of the individual artistic activities of the authors, which coexist and continue simultaneously. For many years, Ivan Midžić’s professional artistic activity includes two basic directions: art work (drawings and sculptures in different materials) and artistic jewelry design. Jewelry and sculpture are closely related in his work; sometimes jewelry hypertrophies into huge sculptural forms that cover the entire body, and sometimes a photograph of a woman’s body wearing jewelry becomes a sculpture. For this exhibition, he takes his old jewelry as a starting point, which, due to unfavorable storage conditions, became unusable as an object of daily use, thus regaining its pure design value. The artist transforms found pieces of jewelry into new sculptural objects. As it is about non-precious metals subject to rusting and oxidation, the nature of this work is conceived as a trans-temporal link between the past and the future. In addition, Midžić will exhibit new monumental works in which he combines drawing on canvas or wooden beams with wire textures.
On the other hand, the main backbone of Hana Lukas Midžić’s exhibition is the interweaving of everyday life and art in one’s own life. The interweaving is emphasized by exhibiting works on the theme of silhouette and placing them in relation to objects and situations from her everyday life. The author’s works of art, which seem mystical and austere and associated with mummies, will form a bizarre combination with all the known wild and colorful objects that lead their untamed lives around the apartment. The title “Mother’s mummies” indicates the vitality on the one hand and the hermeticity of artistic thought on the other. That other side, although in its intention it wants to transcend life and become eternal, actually means reaching or emphasizing life or skillfully shaping and preserving the memory of it. The exhibition will feature previous drawings and sculptural works in different materials on the theme of the human outline. Along with them, the author will present two new works: “Mom’s portal” in which the house door is slightly ajar and transformed into a female outline, and “Krkeč-transport j.d.o.o.” which consists of a plaster bust of a mummy and a child figure sitting on her back.
