The artist, residing in her family’s garden on Srebrnjak, explores the relationships with nature in a different weather conditions. This work gathers actions and non-actions memorized by audio, video, photography and written media to create the whole. The intention is not to create an artifact, display but an unique assemblage of results, refl ections of explorations made in the garden. The Garden is a graduation work of Marica Vitas, perceiving a conceptual and performance heritage but concerning intimate and non-engaging process of facing the nature. Actions and non-actions of observing the transformations of the garden under the infl uence of light, weather conditions or attempt of verbal and tactile communications with it, are marked by empathy, contemplation, peace, quiet, even tenderness. In this way the artist establishes a relationship of equality and respect between two subjects , enjoying its conditions and soothing energy. The result of an established relationship is a documentation of a poetical attempt to emerge, fuse and re-establish the connection with oneself thus fi nding an authority and power of life in nature. Marica Vitas was born in 1987 in Zadar. She is currently a graduate student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Graphics arts department.
